Adventures with Start-ups: Successes and Failures in Wonderland

University of Cyprus

28 March 2018 14:00 – 16:00

In 2010, Philip Ammerman and his business partners agreed to fund one start-up or spin-off per year to 2020. A decision that was part as a social commitment and part self-challenge, the objective was to support brilliant ideas and talented minds, as well as their own feel of "what the hell let's do it" brainstorms.

Nine years and nine start-ups later, he looks back and reflects on what they have learned, and look forward to the next 10 years: • What motivates an angel investor to invest in start-ups (their experience), and how angels differ from VCs • What start-up founders should be prepared for in pitching, contracting and operating • What key success factors did they discover along the way, and where/why did they fail • How rapidly the start-up space has changed, and how to think about exits • What's coming up in the next 10 years!!

This talk will be held at the University of Cyprus on Wednesday, 28 March at 14:00.
